Cherry Pineapple Lemonade

I think I mentioned my youngest daughters penchant for berries a few posts ago. Well, maraschino cherries cause an even bigger problem around these parts. Not only does my littlest hover around any place maraschino cherries might even possibly be, like some sort of  obsessive, stone-fruit deprived vulture, but my 6 year old is even worse.

No, she doesn’t try to shove every cherry she can get to in her mouth, disregarding any human life barring her way, but I promise you that hearing “can I have all the cherries when you’re done shooting” a thousand times per minute during the entire duration of the drink prep and shoot is infinitely worse.

If you read the paragraph above, it’s probably pretty clear that this drink is a huge hit with kids. Something about those maraschino cherries just seems to give some sort of youthful whimsy to anything they touch.

This recipe calls for frozen pineapple juice, for the sake of ease. If you want to use fresh pineapple juice, that would work just fine too. You’ll just need to add a little less water to the drink mixture, since it isn’t concentrated.

If you haven’t seen maraschino cherry syrup around before, it’s usually kept in the drink mix isle, where the grenadine and margarita mixes are. Add as much or as little as you like. I like a LOT of cherry syrup in mine. And don’t be afraid to add more maraschino cherries to garnish your drink. I prefer 7 or 8. My daughter prefers the whole jar.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 recipe Lemonade Base, chilled
  • 1 can Frozen Pineapple Juice
  • 1 bottle Maraschino Cherry Syrup(found in the drink mix section of the grocery store)
  • Water
  • Maraschino Cherries
  • Pineapple slices(for garnish)

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. In a very large pitcher, mix together the lemonade base and thawed pineapple juice.
  2. Add water to the pitcher to taste, leaving the lemonade a little bit on the strong side because it will be poured over ice.
  3. To Assemble:
  4. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of cherry syrup in the bottom of a glass(depending on how much syrup you prefer). Fill the glass with ice. Pour the pineapple lemonade slowly over the ice until the glass is full. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a slice of pineapple.
